Remember when computers and printers were the latest and you could print anything in regards to documents, websites, spreadsheets, but then people started to use more paper, what about the Internet now? Are we using too much energy with all the uses of the Internet?
Are we using a lot of energy using the Internet for all its services? One could argue we are not using as much energy as say a fridge or a stove with electricity. You could also say we are not polluting the environment as much as a car with a computer, but if you consider the number of users on the Internet and the sometimes say unproductive use maybe we are wasting a lot of energy. Maybe not electrical energy but maybe people's energy. Interesting and provocative statement you say. But think about it?
Ask yourself some specific questions with your use of the Internet, and like the paper wastage of printing items with computers in the past 90's, is your Internet usage creating waste in the universe?
1. What do you use the Internet for?
2. How often do you use if for 1 function?
3. How many functions do you use if for?
4. Is the Internet helping you to be more productive?
5. Is there a technology or service that is more effective than the one you are currently using?
6. Have you researched or used any new Internet or software technologies?
7. Do you prefer productive and costly technologies or more free or cost effective-based technologies?
8. Do you think there are too many search engines, too many websites, too much information?
9. Do you want a faster, quicker way to search for information?
10. Is the entertainment on the Internet effective in providing quality entertainment for you?
11. What could you do to make the Internet more productive?
12. Is there a technology or a design that you would change with the Internet?
If you look at the time used do you find you have accomplished something, or is it simply for entertainment purposes(nothing wrong with that), but just a thought to ponder?
Perhaps this article is more of a "suggestion about the future", rather than a, "example of waste" about the present. Not everyone uses the Internet and not everyone finds it unproductive but who really monitors their time usage, and thinks about the waste that has occurred? Is your Internet like paper, wasting too much?
